Who is Eligible

The $1000.00 Scholarship is open to all children of Barnstable Police Department officers who are graduating from high school and will be attending a two- or four-year program at an accredited college. Scholarship monies will be paid directly to the educational institution the recipient is attending after successful completion of the first semester. Upon acceptance to a college of their choice, applicants are responsible for providing the Scholarship Board with the name and address of that institution.


Also, a $2500 scholarship is open to all children of Barnsatable Police Department officers.  It is funded by the Barnstable Police Association and will be awarded by the James M. Dunn Scholarship board. The board will choose one applicant who best exemplifies the following criteria:    
The student applying for this scholarship should be someone who has forged strong ties with and selflessly given back to his or her community. Whether through traditional community service, championing an important local cause, or some other independent initiative, the recipient of this scholarship will have demonstrated a commitment to bettering the lives of others through measurable and sustained efforts.
With your application, please submit a type-written essay sharing in what ways you have shown commitment to your community and sought to better the lives of others.

If you meet the above criteria and are interested in receiving a scholarship, please complete the application (HERE) and return it to the James M. Dunn Scholarship Board c/o Barbara Dunn, 692 Mistic Drive Marstons Mills, MA 02648. Applications are due NO LATER than May 15th of the year in which the application is made.
